WASP and Excerpts
from Cruel Shoes
“An absurdist
attack on dysfuncyional suburban family life in
the 50s.”
Steve Martin’s short play WASP, is a comedy
that looks at a family trying to get back to the
ideals of 1950s suburbia. This was paired with
readings from Martin’s 1977 book “Cruel
Shoes.” Although Martin didn’t attend
the production, he did send the cast flowers on
opening night.
“clear, intelligent
direction…charming and entertaining”
– Jack Helbig, Chicago

“The Aardvark has found its own pungent
voice in Steve Martin’s WASP…Director
Ann Filmer has injected into this production the
lucid irony frequently lacking in Martin’s
stage works…Expertly synchronized production
values and a dead-on articulate cast”
– Lucia Mauro, Chicago

“Ann Filmer’s staging keeps it
fresh, fierce and fast-moving.”
